ABOUT

Phenium is a US based start-up company. They developed a solution to help restaurants to monitor their food safety levels with sensors, tutorials and check-lists in a heavily regulated business area. Phenium's solution is a multidimensional tool and it was really interesting to figure out and understand the details and rules of it. Great global team with full of experts to work with. In this project, the visual line was already decided before I joined the team.

SCOPE

To build coherent platform for complex vision. An app to collect the data from restaurants and bring that into simplified dashboard to the manager and business owner level. Focusing not only to the alerts and errors, but rather highlight the success and the small wins that happens underneath. The best learning for me in this case was to lead the company's big vision to fit the resource boundaries of start-up level MVP.

Concepting

The app has a lot of rules and data in the background and the task was to make it all look easy to use and understandable for the user. One of the these issues was timing and scoring the quests and generated fix-it tasks. Showing alerts from wrong data would soon kill the effectiveness of the whole alerting system. With these layouts above I visualised the rules to the team so that we could figure out the best solution together.

Dashboard design

The key element in Pheniums tool is the dashboard. Its should give the overall sight to everything what is happening in the kitchen, so that with quick glance user could see if there is any hazards going on. For the MVP I created a simple on restaurant version but also the layouts how the dashboard could grow when the tool is more mature and there is more restaurants to view at the same time.

Other layouts

The solution itself is a three dimensional. There is the app that people are using in the kitchens with shared tablets. Second dimension is the web app, for the manager level to generate the daily task and monitor the processes and alerts. And then there is the business owner level, where you can see the bigger picture of the situation and share the corporate level guidances to the kitchens.
